More on The Artist
Oscar Arvid Antonsson (1898-1960) was a Swedish art historian, museum curator, and artist who began his career as an academic in Lund. He studied classical art through travels across Europe and the Mediterranean, particularly Italy, which inspired his neoclassical style. Starting with drawing in the 1920s, he developed into a versatile artist working as a sculptor, lithographer, etcher, and silhouettist, producing works in bronze and marble. Antonsson designed decorative objects in bronze and pewter, first for Ystad Metallindustri and later for AB Athena in Ystad, which he co-founded in 1936. He served as curator at the National Museum in Stockholm, and his public sculptures can be found in Stockholm, Malmö, Karlskoga, and Sandviken. His work is held in the collections of the National Museum and Malmö Museum.
