Incredibly rare Art Deco table lamp by G. Åke of Göteborg, a masterful yet underrecognized Swedish metalsmith whose pieces seldom surface in today's market. Created during the late 1920s, this lamp represents a bold example of Swedish Grace metalwork starting to transition to a more Modernist approach.
The design features a spherical copper base with dramatic, patinated bronze drip elements. The oxidized bronze overlay showcases a natural patina that has developed beautifully over time, with subtle verdigris accents. These bronze drips and its organic aesthetic stands as a bold artistic choice during an era when restraint and clean geometric elegance dominated Swedish design sensibilities.
This lamp represents a rare find in Swedish decorative arts. It showcases the artistic metalwork techniques that flourished in Swedish design studios during the interwar period, when craftsmen were developing distinctive approaches that balanced decorative elements with functional modernism. The handcrafted nature is evident in every detail, from the individually applied bronze elements to the carefully proportioned form.
The lamp is crowned with a new white linen shade. It has been rewired and comes with a E27 bulb holder and Type C plug. North American customers will require either an EU to US plug adapter or a simple plug replacement.
