Handcrafted Birch Lamp, 1943

Handcrafted in Sweden in 1943, this one-of-a-kind table lamp rises from an octagonal base into a barley-twist stem of warm, honey-toned birch. The work of a skilled but anonymous maker, it carries only the initials IF, signed on the underside. Small, charming irregularities reveal its handcrafted quality. Paired here with a new conical linen shade and a white twisted textile cord, it sits comfortably within the organic vocabulary of Scandinavian Modern design.
