More on The Artist
David Jahrl (1878-1963) was a Swedish painter, sculptor, and illustrator born in Stockholm. Before pursuing formal art education, he worked at the Rörstrand factory, designing Art Nouveau vases around 1900 while developing his modeling skills. He was also an accomplished athlete, winning several Swedish championships in speed skating in 1902.

Jahrl studied at the Technical School in Stockholm from 1904, followed by studies in Paris at Academie Collarossi and Academic Julian. His notable works include bronze sculptures created for Otto Meyer's art foundry, including the four drinking fountains at Dramaten (1908). Despite personal challenges before settling permanently in Stockholm in 1924, Jahrl developed a distinguished artistic career. His work encompasses sculptures, paintings, and lithographs, with pieces represented in the National Museum in Stockholm.
