A charming Art Deco bronze tray in the form of a fluted, shell-like dish, centered by a sculpted nude female figure, a 'Baigneuse', holding a long towel. Cast in dark-patinated bronze, the piece combines sculptural figure work with functional design, likely intended as a trinket tray.

Designed by Arvid Knöppel for Otto Meyer Eftr. Fud, Sweden, 1920s–30s.

About the Maker
Otto Meyer's foundry, founded in Stockholm in 1875, was one of Sweden's foremost art foundries, responsible for major public bronzes such as Sankt Göran och draken in Gamla Stan. When Otto Meyer retired in 1919, his successor Arne Spanier continued the workshop under the name Otto Meyer Eftr. ("eftr." for efterträdare, successor), with pieces marked "fud." (Latin fudit, "has cast").

Arvid Knöppel (1892–1970) was a Swedish sculptor, draughtsman and painter, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, and later in Munich and Italy. He is best remembered as one of Sweden's foremost animal sculptors, but he also produced figurative works such as this bathing woman, portrait busts and church decorations. His work is held in numerous museums, including the Nationalmuseum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, among others.
