Antique Faiance Tray

A large antique faience tray of Swedish origin, signed E. Nordberg and dated 1917. Hand-painted in blue and white with a chinoiserie scene very much in the spirit of its time — the early twentieth century saw a renewed fascination with East Asian aesthetics across European arts and crafts. The brushwork is assured yet loose, giving the landscape a wonderfully atmospheric quality.

Large enough to serve as a tea tray or serving tray, yet decorative enough to stand alone as a wall piece or display object.

Signed E. Nordberg to the front and stamped E.N. 1917 to the reverse. The artist remains unidentified.

In remarkably well-preserved condition for a piece of its age.
